Ian Lancaster Fleming
(1908-1964)
British novelist and author, the creator of the spy James Bond (well-known as “007”). The first James Bond adventure, Casino Royale, appeared in 1953. In 1939 Fleming becomes a member of British Naval Intelligence and uses the code-name of <<17F>>. He cooperates with William Stephenson and William Donovan, the famous USAO.S.S.’ (Office of Strategic Services) Chief. In May 1945, in the opinion of some secret sources, Fleming leads the mysterious and ultra-secret “Operation James Bond”, whose aim was to save Martin Bormann (Hitler’s secretary) and to help the same Nazi member to run away from Germany towards South America or England. Ian Lancaster Fleming borrows the code-name <<James Bond>> from this mission led in 1945 in Berlin and so Fleming’s history will follow – also after 1964 - by the 007 Secret Agent’s bestsellers and box-office successes produced by Albert R. Broccoli (and Harry Saltzman) and co-written by Richard Maibaum.
